4 Ways to Cook Vegetables for Adults

Children aren’t the only ones who turn up their noses at the sight of vegetables. Sometimes adults learn to grin and bear it and eat the veggies they hated as kids, and others find their taste buds mature and they really enjoy some of these vegetables.  If you're of the former persuasion, or cook for a picky adult, then know there are plenty of options to consider. Below you will find four ways on how to make veggies easier to consume:

1) Tasty Soups - When chunks of vegetables are out of the question, it is quite easy to satisfy recommended daily allowances for veggies when putting your blender to good use or investing in a decent food processor. Your favorite vegetable, bean, or chicken soup bases make a great start for a variety of ingredients you don’t have to look at when consuming.

2) Baked Goods - If you like muffins, cakes, and pies, then you'll love the recipes that use vegetables as their main ingredients. Some of the more common selections include Zucchini Muffins, Squash Bread, Carrot Cake, Pumpkin or Sweet Potato Pie. Added nutritional features include the use of whole-grain flour and a small amount of sweeteners, such as honey or maple syrup. Mince your vegetables and you will find the perfect way of sneaking in vegetable when preparing bread, pizza crusts, and rolls. And would you believe that pureed prune baby food is great in brownies?

3) Burger Mania - With all of the added condiments and other ingredients on your hamburgers, adding minced vegetables is a great way to satisfy your daily intakes without taking away from the other trimmings. Ditto for meatloaf recipes.

4) Vegetable Smoothies - While fruits are known as the most commonly selected ingredients for smoothies, vegetables also make a healthy boost for the body. To combine a wealth of vitamin-rich veggies, consider a smoothie that contains 1 ½ cups of apple juice, ½ apple (sliced), ½ orange (peeled), ½ raw sweet potato, 1 sliced carrot, ¼ cup of chopped kale or cabbage, and 1 banana. All you have to do is puree the ingredients, which makes a refreshing blend that serves two to three people. There are more smoothie recipes in the healthy beverages section.

When following the vegetable smoothie recipe, you will do much more than just eat your fill of vegetables, but will also improve your eyesight with the carrot; fight cancer with the cabbage; reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease with the apple; cleanse the body and boost the immune system with the kale; fight inflammation with the sweet potatoes; as well as prevent ulcers and strengthen bones with the banana.
